Blind Date Stout

Ingredients

Grains/Extracts Additives Hops Yeast
1 lb pale dry malt extract 5oz chopped pitted dates 1 oz Northern Brewer (bittering) WYeast 1084 (Irish Ale)
½ lb dark dry malt extract 4 oz unsulfured molasses ½ oz Kent Goldings (aroma)
½ lb 80°L crystal malt

Procedure

Steep crystal malt in a quart of 115°water about 20 mins; strain, add extract and water to 1 gallon, bring to boil. Boil 1/2 hr, add dates and bittering hops. Boil 15 mins more, add molasses and aroma hops. Boil 15 mins more, shut off heat, cool, pitch yeast and ferment as usual.

Prime with dextrose at bottling.

This stuff was terrific! Big alcohol, big malt, great body.
